Early in the 19th century, the black community located around Carter's Creek Pike was growing. There were discussions among its residents about the possibility of establishing a church in the vicinity. The nearest black church was some distance from their homes. Many of the men in this community worked at the old Franklin Limestone Rock Quarry. One of these men was Buck Reffegee, who approached the owner of the quarry to discuss the need. Convinced of the necessity for such a church, Mr. Rodes, owner of the company, donated a corner lot and the house located on the lot to the residents. The Limestone Missionary Baptist Church was born.

Rev. O.E. Gallaway, of Maury County, Tennessee was called to be the church's first pastor. On the sixteenth day of June in 1929, the congregation of about ten (10) members laid the cornerstone for its new church facility. The Buck Reffegee family and the Joe David Moore family were a part of that first congregation and remain members to this day. These families, and many others, established a church, based on their deep abiding faith in God and love of family, that would survive the country's greatest depression and become a prominent community church.

Succeeding Rev. Gallaway, the Rev. J. D. Moore, Elkmont, Alabama served as the church's second pastor for more than thirty-eight years. During his tenure, the church's membership grew to about fifty members and the building was completely renovated in 1950. Rev. Moore continued the spirit of his predecessor and was moved by the Spirit of God to instill in the people an appreciation for education and strong work ethics. Although he received little formal education, God granted him such a deep vision and profound wisdom that he stood impeccable among the very elect. His ministry was dedicated to the community- mentoring, supporting and encouraging people to a better way of life. The J.D. Moore Education Fund was established and dedicated to his memory. Rev. Moore served until his death in 1985, at which time the Rev. Eddie Ussery, Lewisburg, Tennessee assumed the pastoral role. Rev. Ussery served as pastor a short time, until his death.

Rev. William D. Joslin, Nashville, Tennessee was installed as the fourth pastor in December, 1986. Six years of ministry by Rev. Joslin brought enthusiasm, hope and revival. Thirty-one souls were baptized into the Body of Christ, and nineteen souls rededicated by Christian experience; three brothers of the church licensed to preach and two brothers ordained as deacons. During his time as pastor, a building strategy committee was formed to construct a new facility.

On December 10, 1993, Rev. Dwight G. McQuirter, Clinton, Mississippi was installed as the fifth pastor of the church. He faithfully served and was assisted by four licensed ministers and eight ordained deacons. During his tenure, the church became a family church in the truest sense. The family increased to nearly 150 members, many souls were in endowed by the owner of the Holy Ghost and the church became a pillar of dignity and strength to the community. Christian Education was tremendously enhanced, including special ministry for Single Christians, Aged Christians, New Christians, Children, Teenage and Young Families. Deepening her relationship and trust in God, the growing membership built the largest Black church family in Williamson County. Though the Family at Limestone grew more diverse in population, the elements that sustained her for more than half century-the love of family and the church, and a strong sense of oneness and community constant.

Rev. Wayne McCullough, native or Franklin, Tennessee became interim pastor in May 2000 and was installed as the sixth pastor-teacher-leader of Limestone Church in October 2000. His leadership can be described as one of integrity, discipline, perseverance, innovative and passionate in preaching of God's Word. The church family was increased to over 300 members, three deacons and four mothers added with five associate ministers birthed under his watch. He believes education is vital in raising a generation who will know Christ from birth. Limestone Christian Learning Center was birthed and operated two years as a chartered school. During his leadership, new ministries were implemented. The role of the deacon has been expanded to emulate the true meaning of communion given in Mark 14:17 "And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.". To reach and spread the Word to more people, the 8:00a.m. service was added. Matthew 25, food ministry provides physical and spiritual food to those who are sick or shut-in. In 2010, the church facility was refurbished. Pastor McCullough believes that Limestone has been called to "Stand in the Gap" to serve the community.

The future will see Limestone mobilizing the disciples to carry out the mission and work of the church. I see every Christian in the body of Limestone actively engaged in leading sinners to Christ. Limestone will put ministry teams into place that will utilize the talents and skills of every disciple at the Stone. To name just a few of the teams: Fundraising, Guest Ministry, Tape/CD Ministry, Video Ministry, Youth Ministry, Praise Ministry, etc. This year we will begin the fundraising campaigns to pay for the multi-purpose building and school addition. We will need to raise $500,000.00 in funds to be able to actively start the building. Everyone will need to do all they can to make the vision a reality." Nehemiah 4:6: "So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof for the people had a mind to work." Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me."
